How to Prepare for the Advanced Program

In 6th and 7th grade, students can prepare for the Advanced Placement program in high school by maintaining strong grades, especially in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies courses. These core courses represent the majority of Advanced Placement opportunities.

In addition, in 7th and 8th grades, students can take high school Math, Science, and Foreign Language courses to advance in these subject areas. However, we remind parents and students that any grades received in high school level courses taken in middle school will reflect in official high school transcripts, even up to college applications. Therefore, students must keep this information in mind as they consider advancing in middle school.

In 8th grade, students and parents should consider what pathway they want for high school.

In the Accelerated Track, students would aim to take AP Courses in 11th and 12th grade.

In the Advanced Program Track, students should select AP World History as their 9th grade World History option, starting them in the Advanced Program as they enter high school. From there, students can choose to participate in the AP Capstone Diploma program as early as 10th grade.

Dual Enrollment Courses

A Dual Enrollment course is a college-level course taught at a post-secondary institution taken while a student is in high school. At Miami Arts Charter School, Dual Enrollment courses are offered through Miami-Dade College.

Students should consider that Dual Enrollment courses and grades will appear on high school transcripts and college transcripts, even through college graduation. Therefore, students should aim to take Dual Enrollment courses if they are confident in earning an A in the course.

Students in the Advanced Program Track should consider Dual Enrollment courses in the summer as possible.
