Welcome all students/parents to Mrs. Natal’s Science class! My first and greatest expectation is that every student will work hard and try to succeed in Science class. I will look for effort from every student. A significant portion of the school year will be spent working in assignments/activities, so participation will be a key to success. Secondly, I expect my students to take pride in their school work by showing to class prepared. Each student will need a composition notebook and a google science class folder. In this folder the student keeps their work and will share their work and submit on google classroom. Chapter reviews /notes will be kept in the composition notebook. I highly recommend taking notes while we review the lessons. This way when it is time to study you will rest your eyes from looking at a screen to study for upcoming assessments. Some students prefer to type their notes but things can get lost on your computer/laptop/tablet and not recovered if you all of the sudden lose power.
Your science notebook should contain details and outlines of everything we discuss in class. It is important that each student bring it to class every day and keep it organized. All science class notes/work are to be written by date on your science notebook. Students work is for studying purposes in and to complete study guides before each Unit Test. Students, the eBook or textbook is for your benefit and I highly recommend that you acquire your personal copy. This will be explained in our class meetings and you will reference all detailed class procedures and rules when we discuss the class syllabus. Sometimes I will read from the textbook or share it during class or ask you to read on your own to answer particular assignments. Students may write in the composition notebook, have notebook paper and a science google folder, this must be kept and not shared with other classes. Students may have to turn-in pages on pdf format/ google slides for homework assignments. Usually homework will be in the form of a document, research paper or completion of lab activities report. One of these may be assigned every week, so you can expect about 1 hour plus of homework per week and 1-2 hours of completion of Study Guide preparedness before each Unit Test.
On report cards, there will be on average about 8 plus grades per quarter in Science class. This means that each assignment is very important to the overall grade. Therefore, I expect all homework and worksheets to be turned in on time. About two quizzes/tests will be given per Unit. Students will have the opportunity to retake tests up to two days after with an excused absence only. During homeroom and the end of class, I will be available to help students by answering questions about assignments and concepts discussed in class. I encourage you as a student to take advantage of the opportunities given to succeed in class. Look for any important assessments, assignments, presentations, project requirements, and links pertaining to my classes under google classroom. You can refer to the school's website to find your google classroom code under Natal and your specific subject/grade period class. Sometimes you will find links or important documents on this webpage as well. But always, always remember to refer to our class google classroom for everything!
Students every time we meet in class you must be on time, attentive, properly dressed, seated and have no distractions, and be ready to learn and share.
Glad to have you on board and see you in our class!
